What to Expect From a Vinyasa Class

December 15, 2020

Vinyasa yoga class consists of a flowing sequence of yoga asana (poses) connecting movement with breath. Vinyasa has gained popularity in the fitness world since it is a great way to boost your strength, flexibility, and balance. Yet, Vinyasa's purpose is to offer us a healthy challenge to go inward during the movements to connect deeper to your Prana (life force).

Yoga is an internal practice. The rest is just a circus.” – Sri K. Pattabhi Jois

Throughout the class I offer cues of when to inhale/exhale since our tangible experience of prana is breath. You may choose to use these cues, or not, yet having the reminder to focus on guiding the breath while being led through intentional movements can often be helpful.

The poses vary for each class. They are a combination of being seated, standing and laying down.

Throughout the Vinyasa class rest, either taking child's pose or a water break, is always an option. The class is catered to all levels. This allows for experienced yogis to take variations in poses that they have been practicing and for newer yogis to develop confidence within the guided sequence.
