What is Reiki?

December 21, 2020

A Reiki treatment is traditionally done seated or on a massage table, lights are lowered and calming music is played. The intention is to create deep relaxation to assist healing emotional physical pain and reduce stress.

You remain fully clothed; often shoes, glasses and any bulky jewelry are removed. Reiki is frequently done with a gentle touch; however, it can be done completely hands-off for those clients who might not prefer touch.

The word Reiki is composed of two Japanese words - Rei meaning "Universal or the Higher Power" and Ki meaning "life force energy". Reiki was presented to the world by Dr. Mikao Usui, a Japanese seeker of spiritual truths.

Along with the healing touch of Reiki, Dr. Usui recommended that people practice certain simple ethical ideals to promote inner peace and outer harmony:

"Just for Today"

1. Do not get angry today

2. Do not worry

3. Express your thanks

4. Be diligent in your business

5. Be kind to others

Each Reiki treatment experience is unique. The experience of Reiki is subjective and sometimes subtle. People often experience heat in the practitioner's hands and/or slight pulsations where the practitioner's hands are. Some people fall into a deep, meditative state or even fall asleep.

Distance Reiki

Distance Reiki is a form of sending healing energy across the miles and oceans! According to the The scientific hypothesis of an “energy system” in the human body: we are all connected and all made of energy. Invoking this law during a distance Reiki session allows the practitioner to link up to the energy field of the recipient. Distance Reiki is a way to link and channel energy for the healing benefit of others.
